Every other guide on this site teaches one part of the method — how to keep a diary, how to write a letter, how the council process works, what commonly goes wrong. It’s a fair question to ask how it all actually fits together. So here’s a taste of one complete, entirely fictional case — “Sam,” a made-up address, a made-up neighbour — followed from the first bad night through to a real outcome.
Reviewed and updated: 27 October 2026
Day 1 — the first incident
Sam is woken at 23:40 on a Tuesday by loud bass through the party wall. No diary exists yet — this is the first entry, written the next morning:
“Tuesday 3 March 2026. Incident 1: 23:40–01:15 (1hr 35min). Amplified music, heavy bass, from the flat directly below (Flat 2). Clearly audible through my bedroom floor with the window shut; bass and rhythm only, no words distinguishable. I was in bed asleep; it woke me and I could not get back to sleep until approx. 01:40. I did not record this one — I was not thinking clearly enough at the time to remember how. Severity 3/5. Written the following morning, 08:10.”
It’s timed, located, described, and linked to an effect — but notice what it also does that a textbook example wouldn’t: it admits what wasn’t done (no recording) rather than pretending otherwise. An honest gap is stronger evidence than an invented detail, and it sets up everything that follows.
What the rest of the case covers
The full walkthrough — included as a document in every Noise Case Pro pack, Essentials upward — continues through: building a diary habit that includes the quiet nights, not just the bad ones; the low-key letter to the neighbour before anything formal; working out a real clear-days deadline rather than guessing; what a diary actually gives an environmental health officer during a visit; three specific moments where the case could easily have gone wrong instead, cross-referenced to the mistakes that cause most cases to fail; and a real, modest outcome — not a dramatic one — within the normal 8-to-16-week range a council investigation takes.
Where to find the rest of it
